He claims that, although he attended a speaking class, there was hardly any speaking practice. His complaint suggests the contradiction between the given course syllabus and the actual lessons themselves. It also points at the possible self-delusion on the part of those who wrote the syllabus. Thus his complaint suggests some important issues we need to address. Most significantly, it involves the differences between the Grammar Translation Method and communicative language teaching, and the necessity of genuine interaction in speaking practice. By implementing interaction, we can even teach speaking to the beginners.
