The author conducted a literature research that contrasted local materials, which had been shared only among a few people involved in tsugaru-nuri, with materials related to national competitions and public exhibitions. The author outlined the process of tsugaru-nuri through the industrialization of togidashi-kawari-nuri which had been produced by the Hirosaki Domains lacquer craftsmen, since the Meiji period in Section 1, and investigated the continuity from the youngest descendant of the Seikai Genbei family, who held the position of a lacquer craftsman in the Hirosaki clan for generations, to Kin’ichi Nara by tracing the genealogy of lacquer craftsmans in the Tsugaru region in the Meiji period in Section 2. The author also analyzed the details of the kanshitu-touka-nuri exhibited by Kin’ichi Nara and its evaluation by examining the catalog of award-winning products from Craft Exhibition sponsored by the Ministry of Commerce and Industry in Section 3.
