Locomotive syndrome （LS） is defined as a condition in which impairment of the musculoskeletal system leads to decreased mobility functions such as walking and standing up. LS applies not only to older adults but also to individuals in adolescence, middle age, and working age . The purpose of this study was to identify the social factors associated with LS. The study sample comprised 812 participants （mean age: 52.2±15.3 years） from 1,065 individuals who took part in the Iwaki Health Promotion Project health examinations and had complete data. For the assessment of LS, the two-step test, stand-up test, and 25-question Geriatric Locomotive Function Scale were administered. The social factors examined included employment status, duration of education, social isolation, occupation, marital status, subjective economic status, and weekly working hours. Based on the “Time Use” items from the Survey on Time Use and Leisure Activities conducted by the Statistics Bureau of Japan, the participants were asked to report the frequency of seven types of physically active behaviors. Multiple logistic regression analysis indicated that, in addition to age, sex, and time spent on sports activities, social factors such as employment status, subjective economic status, and social isolation were associated with LS. |
