| 内容記述 | This paper reviews Mark Landau’s book, Conceptual Metaphor in Social Psychology: The Poetics of Everyday life. This book provides an interdisciplinary look at metaphor by applying theories from Cognitive Linguistics to research in Social Psychology. The main argument of this book is that metaphor is a key cognitive tool for humans, which allows them to make sense of the world around them and thus offers Social Psychologists a way to better understand human behavior. In this article, I first discuss metaphor research in the field of Cognitive Linguistics, specifically the issue of analyzing conceptual metaphor through language. This book crucially addresses this issue, as it compiles a number of recent experiments that use nonlinguistic evidence to show ways metaphor influences thought and action. Then I review each individual chapter and consider practical applications of this book for teachers in the liberal arts, especially language teachers. | |||||||
