農山漁村においては、そこに居住する人々自身の手で集落環境の整備を行なう村仕事の慣行が見ら
れる。人口減少や高齢化によりこうした作業が続けられなくなる事態へは、他出した子どもや孫、ま
た外部のボランティアに作業を手伝ってもらう、移住者を迎え入れる、といった対応が始まっている。
一方で、集落環境の整備や祭りの準備といった共同作業の場は、移住者がコミュニティへ入り込んで
ゆくための有効な手段であるということが現場で実感されている。
そこで本研究では、山梨県早川町薬袋の「道つくり」と呼ばれる村仕事の参与観察を行い、道つく
りという場が他出者や移住者、非定住者を含めたそこに参加する人々にとってどのような意味合いを
持つのか検討した。
薬袋の道つくりには、地元の人のほかに孫ターンの若者や新旧の移住者、他出者、さらに必ずしも
出席の義務はない集落内の事業所の関係者および移住予定者などが出席していた。参加者は、それぞ
れの慣れや技能などを鑑みて6 つのグループに分けられ、作業を割り振られた。
参与観察の結果、道つくりは、まず、作業を通じてあり合わせのものを創意で使うといった知恵や
技術を活用し、それを来たばかりの移住者や非定住者に共有・継承する場であった。また、作業の合
間にかわされる会話などを通して、集落の時間的・空間的広がりを実感し再認識する場であった。そ
して、参加する義務を果たす中で、「村仕事に参加するのは当然の義務である」という感覚自体を獲
得し定着させていく場でもあるといえる。
以上から、道つくりをはじめとする共同作業の場は、正統的周辺参加者である移住者や非定住者
が、集落という実践共同体の一員になっていく過程の学習の場なのであると捉えることができる。な
お、非定住者が道つくりという実践に参加し学習していく過程では、他出者や移住者といった「半よ
そ者」と呼びうる人々が媒介役となっており、この「半よそ者」の役割についてはさらに考察をかめる必要がある。
　In many villages in the rural areas of Japan, we can observe the custom of maintaining the village
surroundings on their own. In some situations where such work cannot be continued due to the declining and aging population, children or grandchildren living other places or outside volunteers
have been asked for assistance, and migrants have also been welcomed. Meanwhile, communities
have effectively integrated newcomers through collaborative work such as communal work on
public spaces in the village and preparing for the festivals.
The aim of this paper is to figure out the meaning of this collaborative work for its participants.
The data is based on participant observation of “Michi-tsukuri （Making a way）” event in Hayakawacho,
Yamanashi prefecture, in which the entire village participated.
Participants were divided into six groups of mixed migrants and non-inhabitants （former
inhabitants, visitor and commuter） according to their skills.
My participate observation revealed that through work, it became a space of improvisation where
in knowledge and techniques shared and passed on newcomers and non-inhabitants. In addition,
through the conversation and interactions in interstices between work, participants experienced
some for the first time and recognized the temporal and spatial extent of the village.
Using J.Lave and E.Wenger’s “Legitimate Peripheral Participation （LPP）” theory would posit
this as a place of learning where newcomers and non-inhabitants are able to begin to legitimately
participate in a peripheral way in the village understood as a community of practice.
Furthermore, in the process of non-inhabitants’ participate in “Michi-tsukuri” and “learning”, those
who might be called “semi-outsiders”, such as former inhabitants and migrants, act as intermediaries.
