内容記述 | The purpose of this study is to examine the effects of reading Graded Readers, which are books used for Extensive Reading, on students' self-regulated learning with the aim of developing their autonomous English learning. In cooperation with Hirosaki University Library, a yearlong activity that involved students using Graded Readers for both in-class and out-of-class reading tasks was implemented into 6 English classes based on Tatsuta's (2018) four stages of self-regulated learning. In total, 168 students participated in this activity from 2018 to 2019. They came from intermediate level Reading and Writing Liberal Arts English courses at Hirosaki University. Results from reflection questionnaires conducted at the end of each semester showed the following: students were motivated to engage in the activity, their motivation to learn English increased by participating in this activity at the end of the first semester, their self-regulated learning connected to this activity continued to the end of the second semester, and students felt this activity was effective for developing their autonomous English learning. | |||||||
